Insider Tips from Local Experts
The southern region of the island has unique weather patterns. To ensure a smooth trip, keep these helpful local tips in mind:
- Ideal Timing: November through April is when the sea at Hon Thom is calmest and the water clearest. If you travel during the rainy season (July to September), check weather forecasts frequently; the cable car operations will halt during strong gusts for safety.
- Special Considerations: Families traveling with elderly guests should use the internal buggy service instead of walking, as the island terrain is hilly. If you have a baby stroller, don’t worry—the path to the cabin is completely flat, and station staff will gladly help you roll the stroller inside.
- Avoid Network Issues: This is crucial: screenshot your e-ticket QR code and save it to your phone as soon as you receive it. The scanning gates can experience 4G network congestion due to large crowds. Having your ticket available offline ensures you breeze through the scanner in just 3 seconds.
- What to Wear: It can get a bit windy high up in the early morning, so packing a light jacket is wise. Discover more tips on taking the cable car without queuing to maximize your day’s schedule.

Well u may not get enough time here, u will be occupied thru out the day. Rides are good but mostly kids rides. Water park is nice but they are pretty strict, no chains, earrings, bracelets etc inside the covered area, even cash is not allowed. They also give u 1 big mug of beer or juice for free which was nice. Cable car ride is good but after few mins it doesnt really excite u anymore. The queue for cable car was very long tho
Ticket redeem was simple and fast, no issues with that. But the shower and changing room really need more regular maintenance. Some of the showers were damaged when we went, so hopefully they fix those soon
Nice cable car, everything was pretty well organized. Unfortunately it was raining when we went, so the outdoor theme park was all closed. Kinda unlucky for us 😅
Had such a good day at Sun World Hon Thom. We almost skipped it at first but I'm really glad we didn't. The cable car was honestly incredible, the views over the ocean were even better than I expected and I probably took way too many photos. We spent way more time at the beach than we planned because it was just too nice to leave, then cooled off at the water park for the rest of the afternoon. Before we knew it, it was already time to head back. Wish we'd started earlier because we definitely could've stayed longer
The view from the Hon Thom cable car was honestly amazing. Probably one of the best things we did in Phu Quoc. The only part that got me a bit nervous was when the wind picked up and the cabin started swaying a little 😅 Still worth it though. The scenery over the sea and islands was just incredible.
Booked the cable car tickets online before we went and honestly that made things way easier. No waiting around trying to figure things out at the counter. We actually only did the round-trip ride and didn’t spend much time on Hon Thom itself, but the views from up there were worth it. Seeing the coastline, little islands, and the water from the cable car was probably the highlight
Honestly yeah, the cable car was the best part for us. Views are insane, like you just keep looking out the whole time. Ride’s around 20 mins one way, pretty chill. Just a heads up though, they shut it down for a couple hours in the afternoon — we got caught waiting and it only started again at like 3:30pm. We went with the kids so we checked out the amusement park after… kinda meh tbh. Most of the rides felt more for little kids, and the only proper roller coaster wasn’t even running, bit of a letdown there. The water park though — way better. Huge place, heaps of slides. Kids loved it, and there’s stuff for groups too (we did a few together, pretty fun actually). Lockers and towel rental were easy to sort out, no issues there. Overall, worth going mainly for the cable car + water park. The rest… depends who you’re with I guess.
