Phu Quoc Squid Fishing Tour – Overview

The Phu Quoc squid fishing tour isn’t just about watching fishermen work. You will hold the line, drop the bait, and when a squid bites—you’ll feel the unmistakable tug. That is why this tour is perfect for families with kids aged 5 and up, couples seeking an evening away from the resort, and groups of friends looking for an authentic local experience rather than just another beach day.

The schedule is streamlined: hotel pickup at 17:00, arrive at the pier by 17:30, and set sail at 18:00. You’ll spend about 1.5 hours squid fishing on the night sea, enjoy a fresh seafood dinner cooked right on board, and return to your hotel by 21:30. It doesn’t take up your whole day and requires no special physical fitness.

What sets this apart from other night boat tours: your guides are actual local fishermen who know exactly where the squid schools are each season. They don’t read from a script—they teach you how to catch squid exactly how locals do it every night. The all-inclusive price of 15 USD per person covers round-trip transfers, dinner, fishing equipment, and life jackets—with absolutely no hidden fees.

Local Advice – Read Before You Book

When is the best time to go? Phu Quoc squid fishing is at its prime from October to March — the dry season brings calm seas and large schools of squid drawn to the lights. From December to February especially, the skies are clear, sunsets are spectacular, and the night sea is as smooth as glass. May to September is the rainy season: waves are higher, and sometimes the port authority won’t let boats depart — but if you do go, the squid caught during this season are noticeably larger and firmer.

Who should skip this tour? Pregnant women and those prone to severe seasickness (if you get nauseous on ferries or buses) should opt for land-based activities instead. Elderly guests with heart or blood pressure conditions should consult a doctor first. For children under 5 — please contact us directly for confirmation.

Practical tips first-timers often miss:

First, bring a light jacket or scarf. The night sea in Phu Quoc is 3–5 degrees cooler than the mainland, and you will feel the chill more when sitting still to fish. Many guests wearing just t-shirts end up catching a cold.

Second, if you are prone to mild seasickness: take a motion sickness pill (like Nautamine) or chew some fresh ginger 30 minutes before boarding. Avoid eating too heavily before the tour — a full dinner will be served on the boat.

Third, squid love light but hate noise. When you see squid schooling near the lights, avoid stomping on the deck or shouting — your local guide will remind you, but knowing this beforehand helps you catch more.

Frequently Asked Questions About Night Squid Fishing

1. Is there a limit on passenger numbers for the Phu Quoc squid fishing tour?

Our squid fishing boats operate in small groups to ensure every guest has their own fishing spot and receives hands-on support from our guides. Exact numbers depend on the boat size — please confirm when booking, especially if you have a group of 10 or more.

2. Can I go squid fishing if I get seasick?

This tour departs in the late afternoon and stays in relatively calm, nearshore waters. Guests with mild seasickness usually do fine if they take a motion sickness pill or chew fresh ginger 30 minutes prior. However, if you experience severe seasickness, we highly recommend land-based options like the Phu Quoc seawalker tour instead.

3. What happens if the weather is bad? Do I get a refund?

If the port authority issues a no-sail order due to strong winds or rough seas, PhuQuocGo will notify you immediately. You can choose to reschedule for free or receive a 100% refund within 24 hours — no complex paperwork required. This is our written guarantee to you.

4. Does the 14.5 USD price cover everything? Are there hidden fees?

The 14.5 USD per person rate covers round-trip transfers, the boat, your local guide, life jackets, all fishing gear, bottled water, and an on-board seafood dinner. It does not cover personal expenses. If you want extra drinks or seafood outside the standard menu, simply ask our staff for the price before boarding.

5. What age is suitable for children? Are safety devices provided?

The tour is perfect for children aged 5 and up when accompanied by an adult. All guests — including children — are fitted with standard life jackets before boarding. Your guide will demonstrate proper fitting and safety rules at the pier.

6. What should I pack for the Phu Quoc squid fishing tour?

Wear comfortable clothes and bring a light jacket, as the sea gets chilly at night. Pack motion sickness pills if needed, and do not forget your camera for those beautiful night sea photos. No need to bring fishing gear; we provide everything. Check out our daytime Phu Quoc tours if you want to pair this with a morning activity.

Boat ride was super chill, nice breeze and the views were crazy good when the sun started going down. Funny enough nobody on our boat actually caught a squid lol. Dinner was okay, not amazing but decent after being out at sea for hours. Still had a good time with my friends though.

Went with my husband and we somehow both caught squid lol, still surprised about that. Thought we’d just sit around and enjoy the view honestly. Quiet night, nice breeze, nothing too crazy but really relaxing. Kinda needed that after a few busy days traveling around
