Phu Quoc Squid Fishing: Night Sea Experience & On-Board Dinner

Phu Quoc Squid Fishing Tour – Overview
The Phu Quoc squid fishing tour isn’t just about watching fishermen work. You will hold the line, drop the bait, and when a squid bites—you’ll feel the unmistakable tug. That is why this tour is perfect for families with kids aged 5 and up, couples seeking an evening away from the resort, and groups of friends looking for an authentic local experience rather than just another beach day.
The schedule is streamlined: hotel pickup at 17:00, arrive at the pier by 17:30, and set sail at 18:00. You’ll spend about 1.5 hours squid fishing on the night sea, enjoy a fresh seafood dinner cooked right on board, and return to your hotel by 21:30. It doesn’t take up your whole day and requires no special physical fitness.
What sets this apart from other night boat tours: your guides are actual local fishermen who know exactly where the squid schools are each season. They don’t read from a script—they teach you how to catch squid exactly how locals do it every night. The all-inclusive price of 15 USD per person covers round-trip transfers, dinner, fishing equipment, and life jackets—with absolutely no hidden fees.

Why Choose PhuQuocGo for Your Squid Fishing Experience?
| Common Traveler Concerns | Standard Mass Tours | The PhuQuocGo Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Hidden fees on board (drinks, gear, photos…) | Low initial price to lure guests, then upcharge on the boat | 15 USD rate includes dinner, gear, and water. Clear exclusions provided upfront |
| Guides lack actual squid fishing expertise | General tour guides who don’t know specialized fishing techniques | Guides are local fishermen who know exact feeding times and seasonal squid movements |
| No refunds for bad weather cancellations | Vague terms, refunds drag on for 7–14 days | Port authority cancels departure → 100% refund within 24 hours, no hassle |
| Overcrowded, long waits, poor experience | Pack 40–50 guests per boat, guides cannot support everyone | Small groups, dedicated fishing spots for each guest, hands-on guidance |
One crucial detail many tours miss: squid are most drawn to the lights between 18:30 and 20:00, when it is fully dark and there is no natural light competing. Our 17:00 pickup hits this “golden hour” perfectly—not by chance, but backed by years of local fishing experience.

Local Advice – Read Before You Book
When is the best time to go? Phu Quoc squid fishing is at its prime from October to March — the dry season brings calm seas and large schools of squid drawn to the lights. From December to February especially, the skies are clear, sunsets are spectacular, and the night sea is as smooth as glass. May to September is the rainy season: waves are higher, and sometimes the port authority won’t let boats depart — but if you do go, the squid caught during this season are noticeably larger and firmer.
Who should skip this tour? Pregnant women and those prone to severe seasickness (if you get nauseous on ferries or buses) should opt for land-based activities instead. Elderly guests with heart or blood pressure conditions should consult a doctor first. For children under 5 — please contact us directly for confirmation.
Practical tips first-timers often miss:
First, bring a light jacket or scarf. The night sea in Phu Quoc is 3–5 degrees cooler than the mainland, and you will feel the chill more when sitting still to fish. Many guests wearing just t-shirts end up catching a cold.
Second, if you are prone to mild seasickness: take a motion sickness pill (like Nautamine) or chew some fresh ginger 30 minutes before boarding. Avoid eating too heavily before the tour — a full dinner will be served on the boat.
Third, squid love light but hate noise. When you see squid schooling near the lights, avoid stomping on the deck or shouting — your local guide will remind you, but knowing this beforehand helps you catch more.

Boat ride was super chill, nice breeze and the views were crazy good when the sun started going down. Funny enough nobody on our boat actually caught a squid lol. Dinner was okay, not amazing but decent after being out at sea for hours. Still had a good time with my friends though.
Went with my husband and we somehow both caught squid lol, still surprised about that. Thought we’d just sit around and enjoy the view honestly. Quiet night, nice breeze, nothing too crazy but really relaxing. Kinda needed that after a few busy days traveling around
